1 year of X-Golf adventures at West Lakes
Over the weekend, X-Golf West Lakes clicked over 12 months of operations! Our team toasted the milestone with a green-themed cake and a Friday knock-off drink. Around them, two big groups putt their way through the Hey Caddy mini-golf course. On the back nine, a multi-generation family, here for laughs and a catch-up. A collection of young professionals is following them, kicking off their End of Financial year celebrations. At the other end of the venue, the background sounds are the regular swoosh and th-wack of the booked-out simulators.
Life is good when you’re tee-ing off!
Reflecting on a year of trade, we are now better versed on how to make a delicious cocktail in a replica wheelie bin, we can crank out mouthwatering pizzas with ease, and we know how to reset a screen if a group has been a little over-eager on the refresh button! Our staff recognise the regulars, we can pre-empt their coffee or beer order depending on the time of day, and enjoy watching their golf develop.
A ‘normal’ day at X-Golf is hard to capture, but here’s a little snapshot of how 12 hours at X-Golf West Lakes might play out;
10am
Venue Manager Daniel is on site. Doors open, coffee machine on. We’ve got Year 12 PE students from the local high school here to work on their swings and use the sim technology to analyse form and biomechanics.
11am
There are two X-Golf Members on Sim 2. Geoff’s got a new driver he wants to put through its paces before Comp day at his local club. Ben, one of the X-Golf Pros on staff, wanders past and offers a few pointers as he sets up another group on Sim 3.
12pm
Archie and his carer are playing 18 holes of Hey Caddy. It’s a fun day out for both, and the subsidised price makes movement and socialising more accessible.
1pm
Lunch! Pepperoni pizzas and corn ribs are heading out to Sim 2 and 4- golf is hungry work!
2pm
It must be a pupil-free day at one of the local schools. Katie and Jess have bought in their Year 3 crew who need to work off some energy. The boys are laughing and cheering as they work their way ‘around the world’ of Hey Caddy. The Mums sit in the lounge nearby, enjoying a coffee and a moment to chat without interruption, oh wait- someone needs the toilet…
3pm
Jax and Blair are paramedics. Mid-week is their weekend. They’ve booked a sim package and will settle in for the arvo. Having a swing, debriefing a busy weekend on the road, sharing some sliders, and keeping one eye on the sports highlights.
4pm
High-vis hour. Work boots are being swapped for something comfier and the drivers are pinging as the tradie lads take over sim 4 and 5 for a quick session before ‘home time’
5pm
Shift change, our Pro Antonio has the late shift and he’s kicking of the first of his free Swing Assessment sessions booked via Future Golf. Mark is impressed, and books another coaching session- this summer might be the one he redeems himself at the work Ambrose challenge!
6pm
Tiana and Aaron are also on the sims. Project managers by day, golf lovers by night! Tiana is just getting into golf, and is documenting her journey on social media. Give her a follow @Golfgirl_ish
7pm
Date night- Caitlin and Josh are new beaus, perhaps a little putting activity will help the conversation flow. So far Caitlin has bragging rights on the mini-golf side of things- she’s gone under par on both the Running with the Bull and New York hole! Josh is eyeing the cocktail list for some Dutch courage (on and off the course)
8pm
It may be dark outside but that doesn’t mean you can’t play golf! The footy is on, 4 sims are full. The last group for the night has just arrived. Thommo and his crew have been chatting about a good ol’ fashion session for months. Tonight’s the night the chat moves out of Whatsapp group and onto the green! New Dad’s on a mission- a beer tower is in order.
9pm
The venue is slowly clearing out. Josh and Cailtin are looking cozy on the couch by the bar. The golf has been forgotten, but the good times should continue. Thommo and the crew are surprised they’re talking about feeding schedules and swaddles between swings, but it’s good to see old mates and have the realisation others are in the ‘trenches’
10pm
Doors closed. Benches wiped, sims powered down. Antonio responds to Jacqui and confirms we’re all set for Amy’s 7th birthday and that we can keep the ice cream cake in the freezer- no dramas.
Done. 12 months in, we’re learning the rhythm and flow of X-Golf and Hey Caddy.
Come join us as we pass on the goodies to our golf-loving community with some cracking 1st birthday offers. We’ve got some great deals to celebrate this exciting milestone for our venue this month! PLUS school holiday bundles, AFL Super Sundays, new food and drinks menus AND all-new game modes and tech upgrades for the X-Golf simulators- so many reasons to break out the party poppers
