Mackay welcomes its first indoor golf and sports entertainment precinct this week, with X-Golf’s 31st venue opening its doors ahead of the Easter long weekend.
Launched by Rockhampton couple Roy and Mary Boase, the opening of X-Golf’s 31st franchise marks a major addition to the region’s lifestyle and leisure scene.
Located in the HomeCo Centre next to Bunnings on Mackay-Bucasia Road, the 500sqm space features six world-class golf simulators, a full bar and kitchen, big-screen TVs and even a pool table, bringing a slice of big-city entertainment to regional Queensland.
The launch has already made headlines across the region, with features on 7 News Mackay, WIN News and in the Daily Mercury, reflecting strong local excitement about the project.
“This is something you’d normally only see in Brisbane or Sydney,” said co-owner Roy Boase.
“We’re thrilled to bring something fresh and fun to Mackay, and to do it while moving closer to our family who are already based in the local area.”
Roy, a lifelong sportsman, says X-Golf is about more than just traditional golfing – it’s a gateway for newcomers and a fun, social space for all ages and abilities.
“The thing I love about X-Golf is it bridges the gap between traditional clubs and those just looking to try the game,” he said.
“And I knew the simulators were realistic the first time I played because my score was just as bad as it is on the course,” he laughed.

X-Golf’s simulators are considered among the most accurate in the world, developed by Australian brothers Ben and Charles Styles alongside Korean engineering partners.
Using high-resolution cameras, infrared lasers and impact sensors, the technology captures in-depth data on each shot.
Players can tee off on over 50 of the world’s most iconic courses, including Roy’s personal favourite – the Old Course at St Andrews.
The venue will employ eight local staff and serve up cold tap beers, fresh pizzas, sliders and cocktails from its on-site kitchen and bar. It’s also fully equipped for group events and parties, with spectator seating and wall-to-wall sporting coverage on big screens.
For more competitive players, X-Golf Mackay will host its own X-League – Australia’s largest indoor golf league.
Mary Boase, a former nurse, says community connection is at the heart of the business.
“We’ve already had incredible feedback from locals and we’re excited to grow partnerships with Mackay’s clubs, schools and businesses,” she said.
“It’s about creating a space that’s fun, family-friendly and welcoming, and getting more people into the game of golf.”
