As NAIDOC Week shines a national spotlight on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and achievement, we’re sharing the story of X-Golf Palmerston player, Curtly Reid, and how the game is evolving in all the right ways.
For Curtly Reid, X-Golf Palmerston is more than a place to play – it’s where good golf, good mates and a welcoming culture come together.
NAIDOC Week is a great reminder that golf is for everyone, no matter your background, experience level or age. And at X-Golf, that’s exactly what we’re all about – breaking down barriers, creating welcoming spaces and making the game more accessible to more Australians.
For Curtly, golf started five years ago when a footy mate invited him out for a casual hit. From there, the spark caught fire.
Since joining X-Golf Palmerston and getting into X-League just over a year ago, he’s been a key part of his team’s success, taking out the Monday night season three title in 2024 and regularly walking away with nearest-the-pin wins and prizes during Ambrose and alternate shot nights.
Outside of X-Golf, he’s just as committed, playing most weekends at Palmerston Golf Club and recently claiming victory in a four-man Ambrose event at Gardens Park Golf Links during the King’s Birthday Scramble.
Whether it’s a casual hit with mates or a big event, Curtly always shows up ready to compete.
But it’s not just about the competition. As Curtly puts it, “From day one, it felt like home.”
“Whether you’re a first-timer or a low handicapper, the staff and players at Palmerston treat everyone like part of the crew.”
For Curtly, that inclusive atmosphere matters…
“As an Indigenous bloke, that feeling of belonging goes a long way.”
It’s also a family affair. Curtly brings his four-year-old son along every Monday night, where he gets to have a swing and soak up the atmosphere.
“He knows when Monday is coming,” Curtly laughs.
“He just loves it.”
And that’s part of what makes X-Golf special – its ability to bring people together across generations and make golf feel fun, friendly and easy to access.

NAIDOC Week 2025 is all about “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy”, and Curtly is doing just that – celebrating culture through sport, showing up with pride and helping build a stronger, more diverse golf community, one swing at a time.
At X-Golf, we’re proud to support players like Curtly and continue growing a game that’s fun, social and welcoming to all.
