Penrith X-Golfer and proud franchise owner Matt Newton will take on a 24-hour Guinness World Record attempt for the Starlight Children’s Foundation later this month.
The feat will see Matt out to break the current world record of 756 holes played in 24 hours, the equivalent of 42 full rounds of golf from 5pm Saturday, 22 November.
With no sleep and fuelled by the X-Golf Penrith kitchen, Matt will hit non-stop with the support from his wife and fellow franchisee, Kylie, and the dedicated team at 55-61 York Road.
Matt’s remarkable commitment is part the X-Golf network’s annual Starlight Swing, a nationwide charity initiative uniting golfers across participating venues with a goal to grant five life-changing wishes for seriously ill children.
With one wish valued at $7,500, that’s a goal of $37,500. The tally is currently approaching $4,000.
Matt is encouraging everyone in the local Western Sydney area to get involved, whether it’s businesses able to sponsor or support, or locals keen to pop down and spectate.
“This is a cause very close to our hearts,” Matt said.
“When you see what Starlight does and the happiness they bring to kids doing it tough, it’s hard to not get involved.”
As the highest fundraising venue in last year’s inaugural initiative, Matt and the team at X-Golf Penrith are hoping to smash the tally once again.
“I’m just one golfer with a big goal, but it’s the people around me who will make this a success,” Matt said.
