Three Macarthur workmates have turned last year’s heartbreak into Trans-Tasman glory, leading New South Wales to victory at the 2026 X-League Championship in Brisbane.
Shane Zielonka, Andrew Robinson and Scott Green defeated teams representing regions from across Australia and New Zealand to claim the Southern Hemisphere’s largest indoor golf league title, completing a remarkable comeback after finishing runners-up in 2025.
The victory capped a huge Championship weekend for the 27 finalists representing nine teams, who travelled to Brisbane from across Australia and New Zealand to compete for the ultimate bragging rights on 8 August at X-Golf South Bank.
For the Macarthur trio, it was the culmination of 12 months spent carrying last year’s grand final defeat into a new season.
“We came so close last year and that stayed with us, so to come back and actually finish the job is something we’re incredibly proud of,” Shane said.
“There’s been a lot of reflection over the past 12 months and we knew we had the ability to win, but actually getting here and doing it are two very different things.”
For Andrew, returning after last year’s near miss added an extra layer of pressure to the weekend.
“We knew exactly how much it hurt to lose at the end,” he said.
“We talked about it throughout the season, but once we got back it was about putting that behind us and playing our own game. To walk away as champions is a pretty special feeling!”
The final rounds turned into a battle for national bragging rights, with teams from New South Wales, Queensland and the Northern Territory fighting it out for the Championship title.
Macarthur’s Rushin’ Robins ultimately claimed the crown, with Cairns’ Smoke Hazards finishing runners-up after pushing the NSW team all the way in a thrilling final. South East Queensland’s Diamonds in the Rough from Enoggera claimed third, while Palmerston’s team from Darwin finished fourth after a strong Championship campaign.
The final was a dramatic NSW-versus-Queensland showdown, with the Smoke Hazards forcing a playoff after a remarkable lip-out on the 18th. The Macarthur team held its nerve when it mattered most, capitalising on a costly shot into the water before sinking the winning putt to secure the title.
The 2026 Championship brought together 27 finalists from across Australia and New Zealand, competing for the coveted title of best indoor golf team, plus more than $20,000 in prizes.
Throughout the X-League season, teams of everyday golfers compete at their local X-Golf venue, progressing through weekly competition before the best teams earn the chance to represent their venue and region on the Trans-Tasman stage.

With finalist teams travelling from across Australia and New Zealand, the weekend is designed to bring the X-League community together away from the simulator bays as well as on them. This year, finalists were treated to a night at the footy before the teams returned to X-Golf South Bank for Championship competition the following day.
It is this combination of competitive golf, travel, social connection and shared experiences that has helped X-League grow into one of the most distinctive competitions in the game.
The 2026 season involved more than 1,700 players across X-Golf’s Australian and New Zealand venues, all chasing the opportunity to progress from weekly matches at their local venue to the Championship.
X-League is built around three-player, nine-hole matches played weekly on world-famous virtual golf courses, with a handicapped format allowing golfers of different abilities to compete together.
The indoor format removes many of the traditional barriers associated with competitive golf. Players can compete regardless of weather or daylight, fit matches around work and family commitments, and play in a controlled environment without committing to a full outdoor round.
For X-Golf Group’s X-League Coordinator Nick Treble, seeing everyday golfers embrace that opportunity is one of the most rewarding parts of the competition.
“This year has been our largest X-League yet and it really demonstrates how far the competition has come, but also how golf is evolving overall,” he said.
“It’s a genuine pathway for everyday golfers to represent their venue, their state and ultimately compete for a major sporting title. Seeing their pride and excitement during the Championship weekend is the best part and it’s a real reflection of what X-League is all about.”
The technology behind the competition is what makes the format possible, with X-Golf simulators using high-speed cameras, lasers and infrared impact sensors to track every shot and recreate the game in real time.
Now that the 2026 champions have been crowned, the next X-League season begins with a new opportunity for teams across Australia and New Zealand to chase their own place on the biggest indoor golf stage in the Southern Hemisphere.
