Three Rockhampton Tradies have taken home this year’s X-League Aus/NZ Championship title which took place at Geelong last month.
This was the 12th annual X-League competition which is biggest tournament of its kind in the Pacific, playing out across nine seasons during the year.
On 24 and 25 August, 25 finalists from 8 teams from as far as Christchurch and Perth descended upon Geelong to represent their states for the Saturday event, followed by a traditional golf day on Sunday at one of Victoria’s most recognisable courses, The Sands Torquay, for an 18-hole, Ambrose-style game.
When it came to the day of the Championship rounds, it was clear that childhood golfers-turned indoor golf fanatics, Scott Simpson, Sean Padget and Justin Hooper’s dedication to a weekly hit had paid off.
“It feels unreal to get as far as we did and to take the win home is an amazing achievement,” Scott said.
“We got to a point in the finals where we knew it was in the bag. It was a feeling I’ve never experienced and it has spurred me on to get there again. Go Rocky!”
