X-Golf’s national community fundraising campaign has raised $24,000 for charities and community organisations across Australia, with its Geelong venue among those turning local connections into meaningful support.
Running until 15 November, X-Golf for Good sees venues across Australia raise funds for causes selected by their local communities.
In Geelong, local players are supporting the Buddiup Project, a community organisation helping people with disabilities build independence, confidence and social connections through mentoring and community activities.
With two weeks remaining, X-Golf Geelong has raised $900 towards its $3,000 fundraising target and is encouraging locals to get behind the initiative.
As part of the partnership, 37 Buddiup participants and mentors will come together at X-Golf Geelong on Thursday, 5 November, for an evening of indoor golf and social connection.
For participant Clem McDiarmid, a recent visit provided an opportunity to try something new alongside his mentor, Lucas Chadwick. Despite having little previous experience with golf, Clem quickly embraced the simulator experience, enjoying time hitting balls and discovering a new activity.
Lucas said opportunities to participate in new experiences and engage with the wider community were an important part of Buddiup’s work.
“Giving our participants opportunities to get out into the community, build confidence and experience activities they might not otherwise access is a big part of what Buddiup does,” Lucas said.
“Having local businesses actively support inclusion helps create more opportunities for the people we work with, and we’re very excited to work with X-Golf on this into November.”
The Geelong partnership is one of a growing number of community initiatives taking place through X-Golf for Good, which has brought together venues and charities supporting causes ranging from mental health and suicide prevention to cancer support, youth wellbeing and disability inclusion.
At X-Golf Palmerston, the team recently hosted 25 Cancer Council NT staff and volunteers for a dedicated golf day, while X-Golf West Lakes has supported The Hospital Research Foundation Group through its Putts & Prams community event.
The campaign has also attracted media attention across channels such as 7 News, Triple M and local mastheads, highlighting the partnerships and fundraising efforts taking place across the network.
X-Golf for Good builds on the success of last year’s fundraising campaign, which raised more than $21,000 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
There are several ways for customers to contribute this year, including a free national golf tournament, nearest-the-pin and hole-in-one challenges, community fundraising nights, a national silent auction and Chippies for Charity, which donates $2 from every participating serve of chips to local causes.
X-Golf National Franchise Support Manager Steve Goodluck said the campaign reflected the company’s commitment to being more than a place to play, providing a platform for venues to make a difference in the communities they operate in.
“X-Golf has venues in communities right across the country and each one has a team that knows its local community and the causes that matter to the people around them,” Steve said.
“X-Golf for Good gives our venues the opportunity to turn those connections into tangible support for organisations doing important work.”
With the campaign entering its final fortnight, X-Golf is encouraging customers and local communities to get behind their nearest venue and help build on the $23,000 already raised.
X-Golf for Good runs until Sunday, 15 November.
