THE BEST OF THE BEST: X-LEAGUE’S TOP TEAMS BATTLE IT OUT THIS AUGUST

They’ve swung, sliced and sunk putts all season long. Now, the top X-League teams from across Australia and New Zealand are about to go head-to-head at the Southern Hemisphere’s ultimate tech-powered golf competition.

This 30 to 31 August, Melbourne’s South East will roar to life as nine elite three-player teams fly in from seven Australian cities plus New Zealand to battle it out at the X-League Championship.

On at X-Golf’s state-of-the-art Clyde North venue, these everyday legends include tradie mates from Christchurch, local dads from Perth and self-proclaimed weekend hackers from Darwin, plus more.

For them (and for us) it’s more than just a game – it’s the pinnacle of modern-day golf which is reinventing one of the world’s most traditional sports.

Now in its 14th year, X-League has cemented itself as Australasia’s largest competitive gamified golfing tournament, giving more than 1,000 players each season the chance to swing for bragging rights and once a year, a shot at the title.

“The buzz is real,” said Christchurch finalist Justin Salter.

“We went from hitting balls after work to flying to Australia for the championship later this month. None of us can believe it’s happening!”

Behind the X-League’s runaway success is the ultra-realistic technology that transforms golf into an immersive Esport experience.

Think high-definition simulators, precision tracking with lasers and sensors and unparalleled gameplay accuracy, realised by Australian brothers Ben and Charles Styles in collaboration with Korean manufacturers.

For Darwin finalist Terry Tonkinson, X-League is all about mate ship.

“We’re the quintessential Aussie hackers,” he laughed.

“Every time we say it out loud, we still can’t believe we won and that we’re heading to Melbourne to represent the NT.”

X-Golf’s Nick Treble says X-League is reshaping golf as we know it.

“It’s local footy-team camaraderie meets Esports energy, powered by the world’s best simulator tech,” he said.

“We’re proud to keep reinventing the game and getting more people involved than ever before.”

And the data proves it, with Golf Australia reporting a nine per cent jump in players year-on-year and Australia’s Esports industry booming past $200 million in revenue in 2024*

It’s clear that competitive social golf is striking a chord with new generations and that’s something X-Golf is proud to be a part of.

The X-League Championship weekend will unfold on 30 and 31 August. This year’s champions are set to take home a prize pool worth $20,000 including an all-inclusive Barnbougle golf experience, plus major bragging rights until next season tees off.

On day-two of the weekend, all teams will hit the greens of Peppers Moonah Links Resort on the Mornington Peninsula.
